ME Jealous....Nah. Philadelphia is the Home of Brotherly Love. So it is appropriate that the Phillies might want to SHARE the World Series Championship...with Others. After winning the Three(3)Peat in 1998, 1999, and 2000...the Yankers blowed-it to the Diamondbacks in 2001. And they couldn't Get er Done against another Animal-Named-Team...The Marlins in 2003. And the Yankers have NOT been heard of...ever since. NO Yankers in the World Series since 2003...what on Earth is going on...I Thought Money Could BUY ANYTHING. I am from the Other-End of the State....and there is not-too-much Brotherly Love...on that end of the State. We Are Family on that end of the State. That is where the STEELERS and the PENGUINS WIN Championships. And "The Great One" was a PIRATE when they BEAT the Yankers in the 1960 World Series Championship. And they don't Spend a lot of MONEY for their Championships...like the Yankers. Survivir |

Well The Yankees can't win them all. That wouldn't be fair.

Survivir wrote:Yea, the Phillies want to share.. like I want to share a million bucks of my money with Donald Trump. Let's see 7 Series appearances (for both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) versus 40. They might have the same number of appearances when my grandchildrens' grandchildren have grandchildren.. But that may be a might too optimistic. What's a Penguin anyway?

Where were you at...Last Year...or the Year Before that. And all the way back to the appearance of the Yankers in 2003. Well...I got to stop this...before someone thinks that I am serious. I found a 'decent' Ride for ya.

Survivir wrote:Well I was rooting for them, as I do every year. I have been a fan for 55 years, since I was 7 and got to sit in the announcer's booth at the old stadium. My dad knew Mel Allan (the voice of the Yankees for years), as they went to school together and played baseball when they were kids (That goes back to the 1920's). We went to a lot of games (in the early to late 50's) and back in those days when the game was over they let you out on the field and you could exit the stadium back behind the monuments. This was before they brought the fences in and the monuments were actually on the field of play. I also got to meet Berra and Rizutto a few years later when they owned a bowling alley in New Jersey. Rizzutto was a cheap SOB. ah but I digress... My son and grandson are following in the tradition, the only problem now is that it costs hundreds to take 4 people to a game. So, that is where I have been. And, I am use to the criticism and the razzing....but, there is an old saying when competitors in business would disparage a leader of their industry.....".you can't knock success."

Gee, memory lane and names and things I have not thought about for years. Like my first transistor radio. It cost $14 and that was a huge amount of money to
me and we would listen to the games coming over all scratchy. I remember watching that series on my folks black and white TV and feeling so dejected.
I was also a Dodger fan until they pulled up stakes when I was 10. I still have my little league Clem Labine glove. Duke Schnieder, PeeWee Reese were great. All those guys played the game because they loved it and you could tell. I still remember hearing the news that Roy Campenella had his career ending auto accident. As far as the old stadium and my dad, he always had great seats in the place (behind or just to the right of the dugout). He would take us to the Player's club (that was so he could get something to drink besides beer). The only served Ballantine Beer and Ale.. Make the 3 ring sign for Ballentine..He told me it was piss water LOL. I was just happy to get some peanuts or a hot dog. A hot dog cost or a soda was 20 cents and a beer I think was 30 or 40 cents. Unfortunately my dad's drinking started to affect our family life and the last game I remember going to was around 59. However, in the 80's I was working for a company and my pool secretary was a one time secretary to Steinbrenner. She still had connections and could get great seats on a nothing notice. Because of my schedule at the time, I could only get to Sunday games that were played at home. But, I was able to go to another 30 games or so over several years including one play off game (that they lost). I have a friend that is a Red Sox fan. He is so bad that he thinks if you are not a fan, then you are a hater. Not me. It is a matter of pride but if they should lose, it is very low on my list of priorities to lose sleep over. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
