I would spend time visiting my old Vietnam brothers, playing with my dogs, attending bluegrass concerts across the country, visiting national parks, and
fishing on the Texas coast.
I would also sit on the front porch drinking a cold beer while I watch the guy I just hired mow my pastures.

I would give of myself to those in need of encouragement.
I would travel to see the beautiful things in nature. I would laugh, love and enjoy life with those that matter most! I would visit military buddies and each and every one of you!

I'd get a house in somewhere warm for the winter. Of course everyone here would be welcome. I'm thinking southern Arizona.
I almost saw this dream come true about a month ago. I never really play the lotto unless it gets really valuable then I'll buy a ticket when I remember. So I bought a quick pick and I got 4 out of 5 numbers right and the fifth number I got wrong was only off by 1. I think my number was 24 and the picked number was 25. I didn't get the powerball either but that ticket would have been worth a grip anyways. What are the odds of that happening? Well ever since then I've been trying to recreate my mental state when I purchased that ticket and I've been spending $5. per drawing. Obviously it hasn't been successful because I'm still freezing my butt off in Nebraska but I'm not giving up damn it! |

Good question Susanne. It is really, really hard to imagine. Been the way I am for soo long but I am sure it would be along the lines of helping others. Sorry for not being able to come up with a better answer than that, but I just can't imagine. Wz

Here is what I would do, this is my dream, and I'm not sure how I'm gonna make it happen, but happen it will. I want to sail around the world,
photograph all that I see and experience...than I want to hook up an airstream travel trailer and travel our country, again photographing all I see and
experience...along the way I want to make friends from all over...those are my dreams.
Then settle down with a simple home on a beautiful lake, where I walk out my front door and there is mother nature in all her glory... |

Large gardens to grow my own food, a sewing room with facilities so I can make things when I need. Oh and don't forget the library..... or the stack of puter games.... err anyone know how to make a still???? S |

I already live on a beautiful lake so I guess I would hook the boat to the truck ,travel the country fishing every lake I could find and along the way visit my
old vet buddies including the ones here. Oh,,,and set on Bo`s front porch and help him drink beer and watch that dude mow the pastures.

Wow all sounds really wonderful, I also think I would want to have a house on a big lake, my own lake. Then I can have the company with jet skis, or
motorboats or sailboats when I want. Or even just the fishermen. Heck even big enough to land a hydroplane if I knew someone with one. Then enough nice guest
houses with staff for all to enjoy themselves with out worry of anything. And then all self sufficient on solar and wind power. Enough land to grow most all
foods and have cattle, chicken, pigs, goats. Then have horse to ride. Still need to go to town for paper goods, clothes, pampering and some good beverages that
can't be made by a still I think I would like to make wine also. All of this in a climate that is pretty much constant temperature 80 degrees daytime with
a breeze. I have to stop. My wish list is too long

I've never had those 3 things going great.. and sorry to say, wishing for something that you know won't come true just depresses me. The "if" question was best answered by a guy I once knew, "If a chicken had lips it could play the trombone." It goes to the heart of the hypothetical. I am not trying to rain on anybody's parade here. I just don't wish for things that I know are beyond my reach. That is not to say that others should not endeavor in the practice, it is just not in my makeup.

in thinking more about this subject i have another answer. i would like to return to vietnam to see if the most important thing i ever did in my life had any
effect on the lives of others.actually thinking about suggesting to my shrink. if i could relate it to something good it might help me with my sense of
frustration over the whole situation.would be interested in hearing others thoughts on this.

Justavet, there is nothing wrong with having a dream, you never know what is round the corner. How do you know how high you can reach if you don't try???
Please don't take my comments wrong, I have done the negative bit and still do at times but I found it was destructive rather than constructive.
Idapaul, that could be a real double edged sword. The benefit may not be apparent to you, and you could end up feeling worse. S

I'd like to say I'd either move to Thailand or do the RV thing. But, since not having the disabilities would also mean I wouldn't have the income,
I'd have to work and therefore couldn't do those 2 things. So, I guess I'd be back doing engineering.

For the first 10 years after I returned from VN I made out my bucket list and did everything I ever wanted to do and went everywhere I wanted to go before I
got married.
I go to all the High School and VN reunions. In the process, got addicted to skiing and skydiving and married a wonderful lady. I've never worn a watch and I live every day as if it where my last. I'll lay on my death bed and not regret a moment, because (quot) I did it my way, on my time. Now it's all icing on the cake! |
